William C. “Bill” Wilson died February 10th at the Spring Wind Memory Care Unit in Laramie. Bill was born on April 9, 1930, in Seminole, Oklahoma, to Percy T. and Susan (Gott) Wilson.
The family later moved to Bridgeport, Nebraska, and then moved to the Ft. Collins area in 1938. Bill joined the Army in 1948 and got out on a dependency discharge to help the family, who had moved to Laramie in 1949. He married Joyce (Moeller) in 1953 and had five children. They later divorced. He married Flewellyn (Pringle) in 1973.
Bill started bricklayer school in 1950 and worked in the bricklaying trade until retirement in 1992. He started out with J.P. Steele, then worked for Spiegelberg Lumber & Building Co. and other local contractors. Laramie projects that he worked on include Wyoming Hall, the Education Building, and the Ag. Building, the “new” Law Building, the Pharmacy Building, the Biology Building, the Classroom Building, Coe Library, Student Housing, the present Ivinson Hospital, Senior Housing at 30th & Garfield, an apartment building in the 400 block of 10th street, and the renovation of the Territorial Prison.
He moved to Casper in 1955 and worked for Don Phillips, later working for Don Coffman. He moved back to Laramie in 1962 and worked on the UW dormitories. Then he went into business with Coffman and Phillips (ABC Masonry), working around the state, including Jackson. He sold out in 1966 and came back to Laramie to work. He has his bricklayer Gold Card that he received in 2000 for 50 years as a union member. In October of 1992 he traveled to Virginia and set the corners of the house that Rob and Cindy were building. He also did brick work on the other daughters’ houses over the years, and he was so happy that he could help his daughters with masonry work on their homes.
Bill enjoyed fishing and camping and hunting in areas around Laramie. He and his children and friends enjoyed many days at a gold mine that he worked with Roy Moeller.
He and Flew enjoyed their retirement, retiring in 1992 and becoming “snowbirds.” They wintered in Florida, making wonderful friends, and shrimping around Oak Hill, Florida. Later they wintered in Arizona, making more wonderful friends and enjoying the snowbird life down there.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Lavergne, Ethel, and Dorothy, brother Bethel, two brothers who died in infancy, son Ken, three grandchildren, and son-in-law Ned Feldbush. He is survived by his loving wife, Flewellyn, his daughters Cindy (Rob) Childs, Bev (Bruce) Lee, Gaylene Feldbush, and Barb “BJ” (Tony) Wallace, his sister Violet (Skip) Wickersham, and cousin Sue (Phil) Morgan. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A celebration of life will be held in April at the Moose Lodge of Laramie. Cremation has already occurred. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Bill’s name to the Laramie Moose Lodge, the Eppson Center, or a charity of your choice.
Loved being with Bill in Florida and Columbus. He was such a happy, loving guy. I just wish he could have done some brickwork for us! I know he will be missed by his family and those who benefited from his work will have extra memories of him. ❤️❤️❤️ Anne
