Stanley M. Vialpando, 74, of Laramie, passed away at his home on Friday, December 2, 2022. He was born June 15, 1948, to Eloy and Beatrice (neé Trujillo) Vialpando in Jaroso, Colorado.
Growing up Stanley was a standout athlete. He played football, baseball, and was a state champion wrestler. He graduated from Laramie High School in 1967. After graduating he was offered several wrestling scholarships but wanted to serve his country. He served in the United States Marine Corps. While in the Marines he served in Vietnam where he received several medals and ribbons, and the nickname, “The Vali”. After being honorably discharged from his military service Stanley went on to receive his Associates Degree from Casper College and began his iron working career for the next 15 years, working throughout Colorado and Wyoming. He eventually moved on to be a welder maintenance for Mountain Cement until his retirement in 2009.
He married, Susan Paiz, on November 9, 1974, in Laramie and they had two children together, Angelica and Santino.
Throughout the years, Stanley enjoyed spending time with his friends playing softball, cards, logging wood, watching sports, and he also always found time to spend with his family. He enjoyed dinners at parent’s house, coffee with his brothers and sisters, and traveling to visit his cousins. Most of all, he loved being with his wife and watching their kids grow up. He never missed an event…whether it was a football game in Cheyenne, a baseball game in Louisiana, or an award ceremony in San Diego.
After he retired, Stanley enjoyed watching baseball and football, spending time with his dog, Sammi, and traveling with his daughter on work trips and with his family on vacations and holidays. More than anything he loved being a grandpa. He spent countless hours with his grandchildren, who knew him simply as Papa. He picked them up from school, shared popcorn and ice cream with them, played catch with them, and even let them play dress up with him. He traveled across the country for their birthdays, dance recitals, and kindergarten graduations. When he wasn’t with them, he spent most nights facetiming with them.
He was an active member of both St. Laurence O’Toole Catholic Church and St. Paul’s Newman Center. He was also a member of the American Legion and the VFW.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Adeline (Herman) Armijo and Barbara (Amos) Lobato.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Vialpando of Laramie; his children, Angelica Vialpando (Alan Gallauresi) of Berwyn Heights, Maryland and Santino Vialpando (Danielle) of Englewood, Colorado; his grandchildren, Vivien and Elise Gallauresi, Adele and Jordan Vialpando; his siblings, Augustine Vialpando (Velma) of Laramie, Wyoming, Lorenzo Vialpando (Louise) of Bull Head City, Arizona, Edward Vialpando (Blanca) of Laramie, Wyoming, Marlene Vialpando of Laramie, Wyoming, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and his dog, Sammi.
Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2022, at Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home. Rosary service will follow at 4:00 p.m. at Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home.
Funeral Liturgy will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 10, 2022, at St. Paul’s Newman Center. Inurnment will follow at Greenhill Cemetery with Military Honors by the United States Marine Corps and the Laramie Veterans Honor Guard. Lunch will be served at the Newman Center directly after the inurnment.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Stanley’s name to your local Veterans Administration online at https://www.cdceportal.va.gov/

I am sorry to hear of Stanley's passing, We went to high school and graduated together. We would meet in Laramie once in a while until I moved to Wheatland. I worked with his dad at Monolith Cement for several years. Semper Fi, Stan.

My thoughts got out to Stan's family and friends. Stan was quite the spirited individual who loved sports, his friends and his family all at the same time. He had a life that was well-lived and filled with all of the faces that he loved and doing the things he liked doing so much. Life does not get better than that ...

Sue, Jeli, and Tino, I am heartbroken for all of you to hear about Stan's death. I have such amazing memories of Stan, and your entire family, from when Jeli and I were in junior high and high school. Always when I have seen him around town he's had smile and hug for me and was so excited to catch me up on what all of you were doing. He loves you all so much and was always so very, very proud of you. Through the coming days, weeks, and months I hope you are able to find moments when your memories bring you a bit of peace as you learn to navigate this world without Stan. I was so sorry to hear this. Treyven and I just ran into his Uncle Stan and Aunt Sue last week. I'm so glad Treyven got to chat with Stan even if it was for just a few minutes. Both of my boys have many wonderful memories of time spent with their Uncle Stan and Aunt Sue, Jeli and Santino. Our thoughts are with you all.

I was saddened and shocked to hear of Stan’s passing. Even after these few days it is hard to take in. I want to extend my heartfelt condolence's to the family, but especially to you Sue.
