Sherry Shaffer

Sherry Shaffer, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on February 15th, 2024, in Fort Collins, Colorado. She was born on January 31, 1940, in Rock Springs, Wyoming.

Sherry’s life was profoundly enriched when she married her high school sweetheart, Rene Shaffer, on May 26, 1958. Their union brought forth three wonderful children, Scott, James, and Carrie. Sherry and Rene shared a bond that transcended time, and though Rene preceded her in death, their love endured as an eternal flame in her heart.

Sherry was blessed with six grandchildren, Carly, Lorel, Jordan, Taylor, Margaret, and Grace, who brought immeasurable joy and pride into her life. She cherished every moment spent with them, relishing in their laughter, and celebrating their milestones.

Sherry’s love knew no bounds, especially when it came to animals. She possessed a deep affinity for them, often preferring their company over that of humans. Her compassion extended far and wide as she dedicated herself to caring for the animals that crossed her path. Sherry’s kindness towards all creatures great and small was a testament to her strong spirit and generous heart.

A woman of remarkable strength and independence. Her quick wit and sharp, sarcastic humor brightened the lives of those around her, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.

Sherry’s departure leaves an irreplaceable void in the lives of those who knew and loved her. Her absence will be deeply felt, but her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known her.

A memorial service to honor Sherry’s life will be held on Saturday, February 24th, at 10:00 am at Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home in Laramie, Wyoming. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a local animal shelter in Sherry’s name, continuing her legacy of compassion and kindness towards animals.

As we bid farewell to our dear Sherry, may we find solace in the cherished memories we shared and take comfort in knowing that she has found peace in the embrace of her beloved Rene.

Rest in eternal peace, dear Sherry. You will be profoundly missed, but your spirit will forever live on in our hearts.

We are saddened to hear about the death of Sherry Blacker Shaffer. She was the best friend to our sister Rozella Brown and was like a family member to us. Since Sherry’s father was killed in WWII, our father often served as her father for events and guidance. Her Mother Margaret Blacker, part of the States family of Saratoga Riverside area, was a widow, who educated herself as a single mom. Many remember Margret from high school business classes, and her success in rearing and loving Sherry. Margaret did this all on her own that frustrated Sherry but also rewarded Sherry tremendously. Sherry really enjoyed her times in Saratoga with her grandparents whether it was the bee keeping and honey business the grandparent States had, the great outdoors, or just freely riding horses. Sherry became a very loving and supportive person to many, whether it be to animals, her family, friends, or strangers she met. As an example, when her best friend Rozella experienced ABI (acquired brain injury) from encephalitis, Sherry was so kind, helpful and understanding. Sherry showed much love and support for her children no matter what the direction, with strong loving guidance making them thrive and be successful. Sherry also appreciated her aunt and cousins, and enjoyed time with the horses each day with her cousin. Sherry also helped other family members succeed, such as providing housing. Since Sherry was like an older sister to our family, we feel the loss and express condolences to all the family.

Sherry was a very good friend. We went through a lot together and we were always able to talk about anything. I will miss her laugh and smile. Goodbye my friend.
