Ramiro “Rome” Sanchez Sr was born at home on February 14,1926 to parents Jesus and Guadalupe Sanchez. He returned home to his heavenly family on July 30, 2024.
He married the love of his life in August 1948 and started working at the Columbia Shoe Shop on 2nd street.
In 1950 he opened Rome’s Shoe repair at 105 E. Ivinson Ave, which he later moved to 220 E. Ivinson. After 53 years as a successful businessman, he retired in 2003.
Rome loved his work, which was shown in the end product of any type of shoe or boot he touched. His ability to return them renewed to its owner demonstrated the skill and knowledge his hard work produced.
He shared his beautiful smile and charismatic nature with all. He was loving, caring and quick to help anyone in need.
He was an athlete all his life. He attended Laramie High school where he and his brother Charlie were on the basketball team. Rome and his brothers Joe, Charlie, Gilbert and brother-in-law Manuel Flores played on Laramie’s semi pro baseball team in the early 1950s.He had fun starting pickup games with the kids of the West Side at Optimist Park. He loved to golf and became an avid fisherman along with his wife Mary.
He and Mary were faithful UW Cowboy football and basketball fans and held season tickets till health created the need to cheer from home.
He and Mary were part of the founding members of the Laramie Latin American Club. They loved to dance, and were the couple that got the dancing started.
He is preceded in death by his wife Mary, son Ramiro (Rome) Jr., and brothers Joe, Charles and Gilbert, and sisters Connie Rocha, Isabel Sanchez, Esperanza Miller, Hermelinda Frausto and Gloria Flores and Mary Peters.
He is survived by his children Florence Sanchez do Couto, Christine (Tina) Sanchez and Angela (Brian) Jacobson. He is also survived by grandsons Lucas Laws, Jesse Sanchez, Daniel Pulver and granddaughters Jennifer Zoe Mingus, Monica (Erick) Chestek and Carrie Pulver several great and great, great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
He has requested no service be held and a private ceremony for immediate family in the summer.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to Hospice of Laramie is welcomed.

A beautiful obituary for an amazing man. Rome, Mary and their family were friends of my parents, Milt and Alma Gibson. Rome and my dad played a lot of sports together! I can see them both now suiting up for a new game in Heaven!

Uncle Rome was such a pillar for many. He and Aunt Mary both, are in our hearts forever. I will miss his kindness. RIP Uncle. Our condolences to our cousins, Flo, Tina and Angie and all the family. Love you all

Rome was a bright spot to so many oof us in Laramie. His ever-present smile, his warmth, and his love for and skill at his profession made him and important part of our community. He was one heck of a genuine nice guy. RIP my friend. You are missed! Dan Nelson
