
Monty Souther, 69, formerly of Pittsburg, Kansas, was born on December 17, 1955, in Butler, Missouri, to Hobert Souther and Colleen (McDaniel) Souther. He passed away on April 5, 2025, in Laramie, Wyoming. Monty loved to travel and was doing what he loved at the time of his passing. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and spent much of his time hunting, fishing, and enjoying music, which brought him joy throughout his life. Monty also had a passion for woodworking, creating many beautiful pieces over the years. His faith was an important part of his life and provided him with comfort. Monty had a deep love for animals and had many pets over the years, often showing his skill in training them. As a teenager, his beloved German Shepherd, Ringo, was never far from his side. One of his proudest moments was teaching his cockatiel to whistle the Marine Corps Hymn. Monty was a graduate of Pittsburg High School, Class of 1974. He was proud to be a United States Marine veteran. In 1976, Monty married Janice Lynn Denney, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Hobert and Colleen (McDaniel) Souther. Monty is survived by his children: Amanda Haskew and her husband Jacob of Vienna, Austria; Stacey Day of Pittsburg, Kansas; and Andrew Adams and his wife Janie Roberge of Newlands, British Columbia, Canada. He is also survived by his siblings, Sherry Robinson of Pittsburg, Kansas, and Terry DeBusk of Richmond, Texas, as well as his former spouse, Joanne Souther of Havelock, North Carolina. He is also survived by four granddaughters and two grandsons. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. No services are planned at this time, but the family will gather to honor Monty at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a homeless veterans organization in Monty’s memory.
