
Jose O. Cortez, 80, of Cheyenne, passed away on November 30, 2024 at Davis Hospice Center. He was born June 21, 1944 to John I. and Ofelia (Martinez) Cortez in Cerro, New Mexico.
After graduating from Laramie High School Jose went on and joined the Union Pacific Railroad, where he worked until he retired as an Engineer. After his retirement he spent his time volunteering at the local VFW.
Jose, better known as Tabby, enjoyed several hobbies including camping, cooking, fishing, upholstery, and tinkering on anything he could in his garage. His most cherished time was spent at the lake with his family, especially while surrounded by his grandkids. His kindness was adored by those around him, he was always willing to help family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; John I. and Ofelia (Martinez) Cortez, his siblings Sylvia Jones (Hixon) Cortez, Randolph O. Cortez, Paul B. Cortez, Mildred P. Cortez, Gregorita D. Knowlton (Cortez)
He is survived by his children Byron Cortez and Kim (Cortez) McMullen both of Cheyenne, grandchildren Chantal, Jacques and Brittani, Torie, and Brady and his siblings John Cortez, Ruben Cortez, and Teri (Cortez) Weber.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at St. Paul’s Newman Center. Inurnment will follow at Greenhill Cemetery.

John, Ruben and Teri. Me Deepest Condolence on the passing of Tabby. So sad to have heard of his passing. A dear friend knowing him through our days in school and just hanging out. We hung around witth the same crowd in our younger days. He always was a dear friend and was great to be around. Rest in Peace, Tabby. The Angels will be taking care of you and enjoying your laugh. A great family friend particularly to my sister Frances sharing times a lifetime ago with Tabby, Randy, Johnny and Sylvia. He will be missed as we knew him well and appreciated that his life that was so well-lived. Special thoughts for his family and friends.
