Jerome “Jerry” W. Beatty

Jerome “Jerry” W. Beatty, 70, of Laramie, passed away at home with his wife and daughter by his side from complications after surviving multiple cancer treatments. He was born February 12, 1952, to Charles Grant and Joan Elizabeth (Tellkamp) Beatty in Princeton, Illinois.

He grew up in Illinois playing football for La Moille High School, graduating in 1970.  During his teenage years he worked in the hay fields and for his family’s mortuary. He attended Dana College of Nebraska for one year and then studied at the University of Wyoming. He then served in the United States Army from 1977-83 and was stationed in Berlin where he was a Radio Operator.

Jerry met Marthann Marie Lindquist in February of 1983 in Denver, Colorado and married in 2000. He was a kind, generous, and loving father to Marthann’s daughter, Elizabeth “Betty,” whom he adopted when she was 8 years old.

Jerry fell in love with Laramie when attending school at UW and after retiring from Lundgren Management for 22 years returned to Laramie. Jerry worked as a construction project management scheduling specialist, handling many construction projects simultaneously through-out California. He was extremely methodic and detail oriented in planning that contributed to his success in his field.

Not only did Jerry have a love for his family, fur babies, and his country. He also enjoyed watching Sunday football with his daughter, making his annual winter chili and beef & vegetable stew, hiking with his dogs, working on computers and smart technology, gardening, old western movies, and especially father-daughter road trips or vacations.

He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Marthann Beatty of Laramie; his daughter, Elizabeth Beatty of Long Beach, CA; his siblings, Jeffrey (Rosalie) Beatty of Covington, LA, Julie Weimer (John) of Tempe, AZ, and Jennifer O’Donnell (Gail Adams) of Denver, CO; his nieces and nephews, and his beloved fur babies, Lovie and Attie.

A celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to USO.org to help support our troops.

Oh Betty, you must be so so sad as well as your mom. Your dad always spoke so proudly about you on not only about the person you were but what you had achieved in your life. I just texted with your wonderful dad yesterday to wish him a Merry Christmas and he let me know that he was still fighting the good fight the best he could and that the doctors were doing the same. All cancer brings tremendous pain to not only the patient but also the family and loved ones, so I not only cry for that wonderful man Jerry but also for all of you, and I have to say for his dogs also (because who will take them for their 3:00 or 4:00 am walk in the morning, Jerry dearly loved those walks with his doggies and nature). Sorry, had to take a breath for a moment. Let me tell you a little about the man we called Jerry Beatty, he was the kindest most gentle man that I knew, in fact every Christmas when I watch the original version of Miracle on 34th Street, I see same traits of the actor who plays Chris Kringle in your Dad --- kind, understanding, standing up for what is good, knowing when to listen, helping when needed, not saying a bad thing about anyone or anything, always being positive (even after a bunch of surgeries on his shoulder, knee, hip, back or whatever else I forgot or got wrong, gulp), wanting to help people better themselves through good words or guidance or positive direction, or the fact that he always had a smile on his face and always spoke with a whisper of happiness in his voice (I can still hear him say “hello Russell” when I would see or talk to him (just the way he said it brings tears to my eyes right now, just so genuine a man he was). There is so doubt in my mind that your Dad, your Mom’s husband, all the various doggies Dad, was a genuine gift to not only all of you, but to all he touched, in his special ways, but to all of the world! He will be dearly missed, but never forgotten as men like Jerry were put here for a reason and that reason is to spread goodness, joy, understanding, support, hope, compassion, kindness, and to help us all realize that the world can be a good place if we all just became like the Jerry I have known. So as you, your mom and the doggies, grieve the loss of your beloved Dad, remember that he was an extra special man that only wanted good for the people he came in contact with (and he dealt with many jerks in his career, but let’s forget that), for his family and loved ones. They say that most people may never get to meet such a person …………………. that makes a true difference in their lives, but I had that one in a million chance when I met your Dad ………. and I am so thankful for that ………….. so as we lose one of the great men that this earth was blessed with (and perhaps may have been unnoticed by many), I hope to be a little more like him every day because he treated me the way all in the world should treat each other. A real gift to the world, and a gift to the people that truly knew him, was your Dad Jerry Beatty. So as you all grieve from your loss, you (his favorite daughter that he was soooo very proud of), his wife of many years and all the doggies he gave great lives to, may you know that that man only wanted good in all that he did. And that although not all the people he touched over the years may not have known that they were changed in some special way by this man’s greatness, they were and that is what made Jerry Beatty such a special gift to this world!!!!!!!!!!! Blessings and care to you all from Russell Beck and family
