Edward E. “Eddie” Bergstrom

Edward E. “Eddie” Bergstrom, 76 of Laramie, Wyoming, passed away October 22, 2017 at Ivinson Memorial Hospital.

Born January 15, 1941 to Victor E. Bergstrom and Mary I. (Holden) Bergstrom in Laramie, Wyoming at the original Ivinson Memorial Hospital.

A lifetime resident, Eddie only left Laramie various times during his military service and for a few years spent in Las Vegas.  He attended Stanton Elementary School and Laramie Junior/Senior High School (in what is now the Laramie Civic Center).  Always enjoying music, Eddie was asked to join the Police Athletic League Band where he learned to play drums which he did in school bands from 7th through 12th grades.

During High School years, Eddie assisted in recovery efforts of the Medicine Bow plane crash involving members of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.  He continued his love of music and began playing with the Tommy Foster and the Prairie Ramblers band in Laramie and the surrounding area at dances and various other functions and as well, playing with the bands of Jack Meyers and Bill Neal.  Eddie joined ROTC in high school and after graduating in 1959 began his military career at Ft. Leonard Wood Missouri.

Upon returning to Laramie after his military service, he worked for the Peter Kiewit Construction company on the local section of I-80.  He worked as a delivery person for DLW and various other jobs in the area.  Eddie continued his military service in the Army National Guard Reserves serving until August 21, 1980.

For a time, Eddie was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Loyal Order of Moose and in the 1960’s was a member of the Moose Ritual Team that took National Honors.

Moving to Las Vegas, he learned carpentry and honed his skills building homes.  Returning to Laramie in 1986 he and his father opened a carpentry shop.  Using his carpentry skills, Eddie made armoires’, gun cabinets, and various items donating them to multiple organizations for their fundraising efforts.

Eddie reconnected with a high school girlfriend, Leilani M. (Metzler) Wright and they were married August 12, 1988.  Together they managed the Fireworks Store on Highway 287 12 miles south of Laramie from 1988 to 2001.  Moving back into Laramie, he again worked doing carpentry in the shop his father started. Taking training Eddie became an on-line tutor, helping students with math and history.

Eddie was well known for his infectious sense of humor and quick wit throughout his life and especially while enjoying his hobbies of bowling, golf, pool, cribbage and fishing.  He also enjoyed visiting with friends during his daily coffee group gathering and while playing in his on-line pool league. He also enjoyed making new friends and acquaintances where ever his adventures took him.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Dale Edward Bergstrom.
