Donn L. Sneddon, 72, of Laramie died Saturday, May 18, 2016 at his home. He was born September 11, 1943 in Rawlins, Wyoming to Glenn R. Sneddon and his wife Vienna Piirainen. His father was killed on Okinawa in 1945, and his mother, Susie, as she was known to those who knew her, remarried and Donn gained two brothers, Bill and Charlie Vaughn. The family lived in Idaho and Donn graduated from high school in Meridian. He spent many summer months working with his stepsister Barbara’s family, the Ritchie’s, in Boulder, Wyoming.
After high school, he was very proud to have served in the U.S. Marines and had fond memories of training at Camp Pendleton. He landed in Laramie, Wyoming and was working for the University when he met Jane Cronk. They married in August 1967 and had a daughter, Melanie in 1970. Donn started with the City of Laramie as a fireman, and later moved over to the police department. Donn and Jane divorced in 1972, and Donn later married Dorothy (Dotty) Mesey and they had a daughter, Barbara Kay in 1974.
Donn transferred over to the Albany County Sheriff’s Department and worked there as a Deputy Sheriff until he decided it was time to finish his college degree. He attended the University of Wyoming, where he graduated in 1992 with a degree in Communications. After finishing his degree, he became a realtor and specialized in researching mineral rights and because of his law enforcement background he spent many years as a NRA-certified gun safety instructor and traveled around the state giving courses. Donn was also very proud of the 20+ years he spent with the Wyoming National Guard and the many friends he made there.
He will be loved and remembered by his daughter, Melanie Paige (Matthew) and her children, Megan, Michael and Marcus, and his younger daughter, Barbara Woodard, and her two daughters, Shianna and Auttum. He is also survived by his sister, Judy of Laramie, and her four children, Joye, Scot, Jill and Jana and their families throughout Wyoming, and by his two younger brothers, Bill Vaughn (Teresa and son, Dillon) and Charlie Vaughn (Kathie and their children Jenny and Tommy)
A memorial service has been planned for 10:00 a.m. on June 22, 2016 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Laramie, Wyoming to be followed by a graveside service at Greenhill Cemetery and a reception at the American Legion Hall.
