It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Arlowe Hulett, cherished son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. Arlowe is survived by his wife Mary, 7 children and 16 grandchildren: Sandy (Chuck), Jake and Emily McCumber; Mike (Teri), Melissa, Megan, and Andrea; Steve (Gretchen), Nathan and Olivia; Patti (Bob), Sarah and Alexandra Sanchez; Anne (Roy), Cody and Makayla Grace; Beth (Devin) Fly, Lauren and Jeremy Sanchez; Matt (Maureen), Jack, Abby, and Ethan; and 11 great-grandchildren in addition to many cousins.
Arlowe was born November 27th, 1930 in Elgin, North Dakota to Fred and Winnifred (Golliet) Hulett. He died in Laramie, WY December 31, 2022. He graduated from high school in Minot North Dakota in 1948. He went on to graduate from North Dakota Agricultural College in 1952. He met the love of his life, Mary Eveline Bull, while working at the Bear Claw Ranch in Dayton, WY. Arlowe and Mary were married in Ranchester, WY, in June of 1956. He began his career as an agricultural extension (county) agent in Richland County, North Dakota in 1956. His career took him to Lincoln County, WY from 1957 – 1961. He moved to Weston County in 1961- 1968, and from there to Albany County from 1968 – 1987. His career at Albany County afforded him the opportunity to wear many hats and engage with many people from many walks of life, not only in Albany County, not only in Wyoming, but across the country.
He was instrumental in and an advocate for the mosquito control program and the rural volunteer fire fighting program in Albany County, as well as the Albany County Maxi Congress for Cattlemen.
Throughout his career he held many distinguished positions of which included secretary for the National Association of County Agricultural Agents (NACAA) and Charter Director for the State 4-H Foundation. Throughout his career, he maintained a focus on weed and pest control starting in 1968 that continued for decades culminating with receiving the Harold P. Alley Award recognizing his outstanding contributions toward the advancement of weed and pest control programs in Wyoming. Of his many awards over the decades, he took pride in the Guardian of the Grasslands from the Wyoming Stockgrowers Association and the Friend of Agriculture Award from the Albany County Cow Belles in 2014.
After retirement as county agent, he focused much of his time on the University of Wyoming Cowboy Joe Club to include starting the Steer-A-Year program in 1995. His dedication to the Cowboy Joe Club garnered him the Cowboy Joe Club White Hat Award for outstanding support of UW athletics and the Cowboy Joe Club. In addition to all his UW work, he pursued a second career with Laramie GM from 1988 -2015 where he continued to utilize his people skills, his welcoming demeanor, and he continued to positively influence those he worked with and met.
Arlowe never met a stranger and leaves a legacy behind that will be hard to match.
Vigil service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2023 at St. Paul’s Newman Center. Funeral Liturgy will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2023 at St. Paul’s Newman Center. Interment will follow at Greenhill Cemetery.
Dontcha know, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the State 4-H Foundation, the Alzheimer’s Association, or the Cowboy Joe Club. By golly, that would sure make Arlowe happy, you betcha and alrighty then.
Arlowe and I met in July 1971. You can guess that I was the new CEHE, one of many Arlowe trained over the years. We became colleagues and good friends. Our relationship has lasted over 51 ½ years. Working with Arlowe, Barb Knight Farmer, 4-Hers and leaders, and Extension Homemakers was the delight of my life. I already miss him. Take care. Nancy
I just recently saw the news of Arlowe's passing. I worked for him in the Albany County Extension Office in the late 70s to early 80s. He was a wonderful boss and a great person. I will never forget the goodbye dinner he and his lovely wife, Mary, treated myself and my husband to when we left Laramie for Austin, Texas. Some years later I took my young son to the Chevy dealer in Laramie and said hey to Arlowe. I believe that was the last time I talked with him, but I have thought how him often over the years. He was one of the most genuine and kindest people I have ever known. I am very sorry for the family's loss. Julie Rayda
Dear Hulett Family, My deepest condolences to all of you. I remember county fairs and Arlowe! He has been the only person in my life that could make me blush every time he ran into me, and he knew it by golly! I will always remember Arlowe and what he gave 4-H and the Laramie community. What a great man! So sorry for your loss.
We are very sorry to hear about Arlowe’s pass. We are lucky to have had him as a neighbor for over 20 years. He was always so nice asking about our family back home and my son after he moved away to go to college. He would cut the newspaper when he read news about our country (Brazil). On Christmas 2022 he knocked at our door to deliver us a treat. So sweet of him!! We just came back from Brazil a couple of weeks ago and I didn’t see Arlowe backing up his car and leaving for a short ride, or I didn’t see him checking his mail. Then, I decided to ask a friend if she knew if Arlowe was ok. That was today when I received this sad news of his passing. 😢 Our condolences to the whole family.
The Weston County Extension office would like to extend our sympathy to Arlowe Hulett's family. We are sure he will be missed by the many individuals he came into contact with during his years in Extension. Vicki Hayman, Erin Persche, and Abbey Lacey
What a wonderful friend and man. He will be missed, he always made me laugh and I looked forward to seeing him our community. As we were growing up he never judged us at our hot tub party at this home with my friend Patti. I will miss you Arlowe and how you called me Speedy!
I was so sorry to hear about Arlowe's passing...he always made my day when he would call or come by my office with words of wisdom, stories from the past about Steve Gosar playing basketball for UW. I will always miss you Arlowe and know that your family is in my prayers.
There is a big hole in my heart with the passing of Arlowe, a kind and gentle soul. I was fortunate to meet him through my husband, Gene Inloes. He and Gene shared many adventures and great conversations. When I went to work in the "Yards" at the NWSS, I was able to spend days working with Arlowe at the pen shows and sales. We had wonderful discussions. He was hard working, totally faithful to the job, a kind gentleman, and ambassador for Wyoming. He was a free thinker and always up for a new challenge. I shall miss him terribly. Thank you Hulette family for sharing him with all of us. God's Peace. Arlowe, rest in peace...job well done.
So sorry to hear about Arlow . . .He will be missed by many as he was so active in the community and well loved by the agriculture community who he was so devoted to. You have my condolences and I know he will be missed by the family.
I would like to express my deepest sympathies to the family and offer my condolences. I would also like to thank you for yours when my wife Karen passed. We wish comfort and love for the family and will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. With blessings, Dennis Green
I’m so sorry for your loss. Please accept my deepest condolences. May the care and love of those around you provide comfort and peace to get you and your family through the days ahead.
What a loss to the community. Arlowe is someone we should all aspire to be like. Kind, giving, loving, and supporting. Always positive. Full of life and laughter. I will alwasy cherish the friendship we had. You will be missed!
I met Arlowe at St. Laurence at the 8:00 a.m. Sunday mass about a year ago. He was sure he knew me from somewhere!! After that I would occasionally sit with him if I made it to 8:00 mass. I learned of his passing at mass today. I lost it, and sat there and sobbed. I saw him just a few weeks ago, and walked him out to his truck and reminded him not to fall down! The last time I saw him was at Spring Wind, as my mother is a resident there. He wanted us to have Christmas dinner there! But I told him we would be bringing Mom home. He was such a wonderful man, that I'm sure had a wonderful family, and I'm so sorry for your loss. One thing I know though... Arlowe went STRAIGHT to Heaven!!!
We send our deepest sympathy to the entire Hulett Family. We shall miss Arlowe as he was one in a million!
Dear Hulett family, Arlowe was such a good listener as well as speaker. He was persuasive while always staying kind. (Who knows what he may have been thinking!!) Next to my dad, Arlowe was my most admired and respected man. He will be missed, but his legacy will continue as his family carries on. Terrialee Lankford
Over the years, I wasn’t able to get together with Arlowe as much as I had liked to but to know him was to love him. Truly, a special person- hard to beat that smile of his. With loving sympathy, Laverne Schmidt
Our deepest sympathies and thoughts are with the Hulett Family. Arlowe was a very special person and his kindess and contagious smile touched so many. His friendship and love for our family will be forever in our hearts...we were blessed to know him. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all. The Brooks Family
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. We always got to see him at the homecoming parade and lived to visit with everyone. He touched many lives!!!
Sandy, Mike, Steve, Patti, Anne, Beth, Matt, Your Dad was indeed legend and impacted so many in such a positive way. The Peoria cousins (Kenneth, Joan and I), have such fond memories of Uncle Arlowe's zest for life and authentic ability to connect with people. Uncle Arlowe was the real deal in his cowboy hat and boots and we have fond memories of picnics at Vedauwoo and also seeing him on TV in the stands at Wyoming football and basketball games. My Dad treasures his long friendship with Arlowe and says he is one of the very best people he has ever known.
My deepest Sympathy to Arlowe's Family! He was one amazing person and always very happy. He will be missed by the Whole town of Laramie that knew him. Beth, my dearest friend, I am so very sorry for your loss. You have my heart!!! Love to you and your Family. Vicki Heinrich
So sorry to hear of Arlowe’s passing. I truest enjoyed working with him over the years. He could always bring a smile to your face! Betsy and my thoughts and prayers go out to Mary and the entire family.
I got to know Arlowe when I worked in the Cowboy Joe Club through the Steer-A-Year program. It was a huge success because of him. He was so genuine and fun to work with. I always looked forward to his visits to our office and loved his giant smile and laugh and sense of humor. After I left the CJC I'd run into him at Laramie GM, and unfortunately I was there a lot and he always asked about my father-in-law and the ranch and never forgot anyone's name. He will be missed by so many. RIP Arlowe.
As a nephew, whenever I would see Uncle Arlowe in person, I couldn't avoid cracking an immediate smile on my face only to see that he had beaten me to it and already had a smile on his face. His ability to engage anyone that he came into contact with and immediately earn their respect and admiration was so unique that it was something I wouldn't forget going way back to when I was a kid. And when our dad Harold (Mary's brother), myself and brothers , Alan and Craig came up to Laramie from Texas for a Wyoming Cowboys game (or two or three), Arlowe took us on a VIP tour of the Wyoming athletics department that Friday before the game. This included a tour of the locker room, facilities and hanging out with the coaches on the field at War Memorial Stadium. We walked around the stadium like we owned the place only because we were following Arlowe around everywhere he went as he was so respected by the University. Then there was the private parking space for Mary and Arlowe Hulett -THAT was true greatness! And on the way home, we drove by the coaches houses which were all next to each other on the same street...Arlowe said that this proximity was on purpose so if one of the coaches house was going to be egged, ALL coaches houses would get egged LOL!! I've always thought that there's been a true connection between the Wyoming Cowboys and Dallas Cowboys! ..Jay Novacek among others. To our dear cousins Sandy, Mike, Steve, Patti, Anne, Beth, Matt...Love Ya'll So Much...Uncle Arlowe was the best and we'll never forget him! And all our love to Aunt Mary, we're thinking about her every day. Love, Brian, Craig, Alan and Linda down in Texas ...Go Pokes!!
I was blessed to have grown up on Arlowe's block. His older children watched my brother and I when we were young. One day a lady drove into our house and my dad was out of town. Arlowe stopped by and helped us close up our window. He was just like that. Always willing to help. 15 years later my wife and I happened upon Arlowe while in town, she hadn't met him yet. With a huge smile and his arms that always seemed too long Arlowe gave her a huge hug so she felt welcome. Because Arlowe was just, well Arlowe. Those who knew him know. God Bless.
What a man, your dad, granddad and husband Arlowe was! If you were a Laramie kid, you knew Arlowe and he knew you and your folks. I have tons of memories from county fair to Cherry lime-aids at Gem City Bone and Joint on a warm summer afternoon, along with his love of warm banana bread. One of my favorites is seeing him and Mary along with MANY Cowboy Joe members on a ferry in Seattle when the UW Cowboys were in the NCAA tournament and made it to the Elite 8. He came home and told everyone town (via is weekly radio update) that he ran into me on the ferry ride. He knew everyone and never met a stranger. I will never forget Arlowe and his love for people. Prayers to all of you and your families. May you find peace in all of your memories of a great great man. Ronda Schott Jackson
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of such a great human being. He made you feel like a million bucks every time he saw you. My condolences to the family. He will be missed.
Some of my most cherished childhood memories revolve around my years as a Rock Creek Valley 4-Her. Arlowe is front and center of those fine memories of 4-H Camps, County and State Fairs. He made everyone around him feel important, encouraged success, and exemplified true and genuine leadership.
Arlowe was instrumental in the lives of many of us hay seeds who had the pleasure and honor of knowing and working with him. I had the good fortune to be one of them. He always made me smile. ❤️
To Arlowe's Family and Friends: The Eppson Center would like to extend our condolences on the passing of Arlowe. He was such a gentle, kind spirit and I don't know if there was a friendlier person around these parts, BY GOLLY! We are grateful to have been a part of his life and hope that the warm memories and stories you have comfort you during this difficult loss. Praying for peace for each of you. Tammy Comer and the Eppson Center Staff
I am heartbroken to learn of Arlowe's passing. I so well remember him during Wyoming's 75th anniversary of Statehood. He won the state-wide beard growing contest. He helped put together the unforgettable wagon train which traveled from New Castle to Douglas. His personality shown. He always exhibited that friendly smile and shared kind words. I was so honored to breakfast with him [and Sandy] some four years ago. What a delight. And we shared treasured memories of a time 50+ years ago.
Sad to hear, my condolences to the family.
Such an incredible man with a huge heart and love for community and people. I was blessed to be in 4-H during his time as the extension agent in Albany County. His continued commitment to community was evident in all he did upon retirement. By golly, one of my favorite memories is simply his contagious smile and laugh. Many great memories.
We are so sorry for your loss, we were lucky to be Arlowe’s neighbor for 10 years, he was just an incredible guy ❤️ The Dorssom Family
It took me time to grasp the passing of Arlowe. I have many fond memories of this remarkable man to share. He found a couple men who want to have my rams. My Ramblette ram found a good home. He noticed that my family didn't share the same interests with me. I raised other livestock during my 4-H years. He was a great asset for locating different breeders. He also held great 4-H camp for many years. He loved my spinning demonstration. The demonstration began with agriculture and ended up with home economies. He was a great friend who will be remembered for years to come. He will be missed by many of his friends and family.
Beth and family, I was sorry to hear of Arlowe's passing. He was always such a nice person to be around and to talk with. He will be missed. My sincere condolences .
Arlowe was a consistently positive person. His smile came easily and his sense of humor was genuine. He was a solid citizen, an admirable mentor to youth and adults, and valuable asset to many in his tireless work as County Extension Agent and community volunteer. He will be missed by his large family and wide group of friends. Bill and Patti Ogg
Very sorry for your loss. Arlowe was a good man and good agent. When I joined extension he was held up as an example. He always had a kind word.
I regret I will not be able to attend Arlowe's funeral. Back when we could call ourselves "county agents" instead of extension agents, he was the County Agent of county agents. I always looked up to him. He was my mentor. We had many years of memorable and lasting experiences (Jr leader camp at Douglas). You are in my prayers. Frank Henderson
I was so saddened to here of Arlowes passing. He has been a wonderful neighbor of mine for 28 years. He always gave me the best tips on how to take care of my pesky weeds, always interested in the new things I was doing in my yard, and we always visited about the past and the things my siblings and I did in 4-H and FFA. He was always cheerful and cared about you and yours. He was a great friend and neighbor, and I know he will be missed deeply by his family.
The thing I remember most about Arlowe was his massive stride. One step from him usually required 2 or 3 steps from me to keep up. His booming voice was always friendly and I was always happy to see him, there are few people that have that kind of charisma. He was a wonderful man and I consider myself lucky to have known him.
Dear Beth & Hulett Family: Although we didn't have the honor of meeting your Father in person, we got a glimpse of him through you. Our lives were enriched & Blessed when you married our Son Devin, (who by no coincidence shares the same birthdate as Arlowe). Our hearts are saddened by his passing, but what a beautiful life he lived. Our thoughts & prayers to the Hulett Family.
I’m saddened to learn of the loss of Arlowe Hulett, a great friend, mentor and role model to countless young people. He definitely played a key role in my professional and personal development. He will be sorely missed.

I don't think I ever met a finer individual than Arlowe. I don't think he ever met a stranger and I remember visiting with him every year at the State Fair. He will not only be remembered for all he accomplished in life, but also as a generous human being. I enjoyed my last visit with him, which was a my mother's funeral. By golly we will miss you. Jock and Marilynn Ward

My late husband and I fell in love with Arlowe when his son, Matt, married our daughter Maureen. He was such a gentle and honest soul and will be missed by all of us who respected and truly loved So relieved he is in the arms of our Lord and will be there to welcome Mary home. My love and condolences to the entire Hulett family and I send my love.
Our deepest condolences! He sure was one of a kind and will truly be missed! ♥
My deepest condolences to the Hulett family. He showed every day that he was a true man of the people. He is the epitome of a true Extension Agent. I was fortunate to have worked with him. My prayers are with you all.

One of our very favorite humans. What a wonderful contribution he made when he picked Laramie to be his home. Everyone loved this man who had such a huge impact on so many of us growing up in the agriculture community. What a huge loss for his family and his enormous circle of friends. My last visit with Mary and Arlowe was a wonderful visit from them the day before my Mom’s memorial, so thoughtful. Our thoughts and prayers are will his family, he will be so missed.
Deepest condolences to all of you from the Botkin family! Arlowe was very special to all of us during our 4-H years and also in his involvement with Dad in many agricultural settings. I smiled at a recent December UW basketball game when I looked up during half time to check on Arlowe, thinking I would walk up the stairs to see him like I had at other games. But he was already surrounded by people who had walked up to see him -- and he was smiling great big AND wearing those wonderful sleigh bells! What a positive impact he had on so many of us across Wyoming. Blessings to all of Arlowe's family! We send our love! Jan Botkin Therkildsen for the Botkins
I’m so sorry for the loss of this wonderful friendly soul. I remember seeing Arlowe and Mary at the Cowboy basketball games. 🏀My condolences to the Hulett family. 💔
He was such a ray of sunshine. I’m sending love and prayers of peace to his family.
To Arlow's family I extend my sincere condolences. Arlow will always have the love and admiration of those who knew him, he was a true pillar of the Albany County Community. He will be received into heaven with open arms. Arlow is now riding on the wings of the wind.

I would like to extend our sincere condolences to the Hulett family. We have been friends with Arlow since shorty after he arrived in Laramie and were always thankful for his friendship and his contributions to the Laramie area. We are very sad that we cannot attend the services, as we are out of state at this time.. Please know that we join you in your sadness at this loss. George and Janice Parker
My heart is sad and will with my last breath know that I had a friend named “By Golly Arlowe”. The many trips we made on our HD’s live in me as if had done this morning. Gone but never forgotten, my friend. Carl Evans
