Amy Marie Lawrence, 98, of Laramie, Wyoming passed away Wednesday, July 17 at the Laramie Care Center.
Daughter to William and Rena (Palmer) Lawrence, Amy was born September 3, 1920 in Laramie to a ranching family. A lover of education, Amy received her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Wyoming in 1942 and her Masters of Arts in American Studies/Historical Preservation from the University of Wyoming in 1995.
Amy worked as a journalist for the Laramie Boomerang and the Casper Tribune Herald, later acting as the Rocky Mountain Editor for the Horse Lover’s Magazine and an advertising manager for the Rodeo Sports News. In 1980, Amy returned to the Laramie Valley where her love of history thrived with the Albany County Historic Preservation Board, the Nici Self Museum, Laramie Plains Museum, Wyoming Association of Professional Historians and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Amy received many accolades in her life including being elected to Pi Kappa Phi national honor society as well as Phi Alpha Theta, a national history honorary society.
Amy loved to share stories of her youth, specifically attending rodeos. Ever the rodeo lover, Amy was crowned Miss Laramie Jubilee Days in 1942 and was delighted to share the sorority with all succeeding Laramie Jubilee Days Royalty.
Amy was preceded in death by her parents William and Rena Lawrence. She is survived by cousins Ray and Marybeth Garson, Don and Jackie Bath, and her good friends in the Little Laramie Valley.
A celebration of life will take place at the Laramie Elks Lodge, 103 South 2nd Street, on Wednesday, July 24 at 3pm.

Amy was a long-Time friend. She will be sorely missed by all of her friends at the Wyoming historical society, in Laramie, and in every other aspect of her life. Rest in peace Amy. Thank you for your Since sense of humor, and your love of Wyoming history.
