Geraldine Beavers

Geraldine Suttle Beavers passed away on Thursday, July 18th, 2024 at the Hospice Center of Laramie. She was born in Shawnee, OK on August 4th, 1934 to Orbie Crain Suttle and Earl Suttle. She was the oldest of 4 children and deeply loved her younger siblings. She graduated High School in Shawnee in 1952. She went on to study at Oklahoma Baptist University for one year and graduated from the Oklahoma College for Women in 1956. As a new Speech Therapist, Geraldine took several students to Sheridan, Wyoming to help start the Wyoming School for the Deaf. In Sheridan, she met a handsome cowboy named Jack Beavers, whom she wed in 1958. They had their first daughter, Jacquelin in 1959. Geraldine was passionate about education and learning. She received her Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from the University of Wyoming. After this achievement, she and Jack had two more children. Daughter, Becky in 1964 and son, Clint, in 1966. After moving to several different places, the family settled back in Laramie in 1971. The house they lived in became the family hub for decades to come for all celebrations, holidays, birthdays, weekly family dinners and Sunday breakfasts. Anytime you needed, you could head over to her house and she would be there, standing in the kitchen asking if you were hungry, arms open for a hug.

Geraldine worked as a Speech Therapist with Albany County School district for over 20 years, retiring in 1994 at age 60. She stated that these were some of the best years of her life, as she didn’t have to work and got to spend most of her time with her Grandchildren.

Geraldine was a loving and compassionate person, dedicating much of her life to volunteer work as a Girl Scout Troop leader, a member of the Vestry at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church and Board Member of the Laramie Soup Kitchen. However, her greatest joy in life was her family. She showed them immense love, and her house was always considered “home”. She will be deeply missed, but the lessons she taught and the love she gave will never be forgotten.

Geraldine is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack, daughter Jacquelin St.Clair and brother, Richard Suttle. She is survived by her sisters, Juanita Holmes and Linda McClure of Grove, OK, daughter Becky Beavers of Billings, MT, son Clint Beavers of Laramie, grandson Cody St. Clair (Cyndi) of Owasso, OK, granddaughter Cammi St. Clair Capps (Chris) of Fort Collins, CO and her great grandchildren, Ayala and Anthony St. Clair and Colter Capps.

At Geraldine’s request, no services will be held.

Geraldine was a special human being -- competent, professional, a true friend always with a smile for everyone. We worked together in the schools and worshiped together St. Matthew's Episcopal Cathedral. Not having an office space of her own, she worked out of the social studies teacher preparation area across the hall from my room. I taught her children as well as her granddaughter and have remained lifelong friends with them. Her late husband, Jack, was also a good friend. Becky, Cammi, and Clint continue the legacy of your mom with your own good works. A wonderful woman and a wonderful family. Love, Dan Nelson
