I just learned this sad news today. My condolences to the whole family. I’ll always remember his help with several science activities for my classes. He made learning new things fun. Even taught the teacher several things.

Mike and the whole Lytle family have been a beautiful part of my life on Michigan Avenue in Salt Lake City. From the time we moved into our home in 1993 there wasn't a house or car problem that a Lytle couldn't fix. I would look forward to Mike and Nancy's visits from Lovell. He brought stories of the projects he had taken on @ home and @ work. One of Mike's biggest undertakings for me was construction of a huge cinderblock wall on the back of my yard. Several bidders told me that the wall couldn't be built on its existing foundation, and it would cost thousands of dollars to start over. Mike was undeterred. He figured out the engineering, then rallied the Lytle brothers to do the construction for me. That was in the late 1990s. The wall still stands tall and beautiful with a straw bale plaster veneer custom made and applied by my other great neighbor Wayne Bingham. I think the wall will outlast virtually any other structure in the neighborhood, causing historians to wonder at the genius of the design. Mike was the son of two great people, Kent and Dorothy. I loved being welcomed to family gatherings, and listening to the family talk and work on projects, sometimes late into the night. The Lytles may be the most generous people I know. The world needs more Lytles.

Big Mike was and will continue to be a legend to our family. I will treasure the memories of fishing, collecting geodes, polishing rocks, origami, fidget gadgets, installing a sump pump in our basement, working out Advantage software issues, hosting us at your home on our trip to see the eclipse, and the many visits he made to our home whenever he was in town. Mike was a gentle giant, intellectually and spiritually as well as physically. Even in the terrible and continuous pain he endured the past few years, he continued to be encouraging, thoughtful, and courageous in the text messages we exchanged. Mike’s friendship has been one of the most treasured blessings of my life and his influence and legacy of love will continue to bless our family. Our hearts reach out to Nancy and the children and grandchildren. Mike loved each of you so dearly. We love you too. As requested, in lieu of flowers we have donated to Shriner’s Children’s in Mike’s honor.
