Monday, May 6, 2024, Richard F. Humphreys of Laramie, Wyoming, passed away. He was 76 years old.

Richard was born in Casper, Wyoming, on February 15, 1948, to William J. Humphreys and Fern E. (Wilkens) Humphreys. He grew up in Casper and enjoyed spending time on his family ranch.

Richard graduated from Natrona County High School and then attended Casper Community College for two years before enlisting in the U.S. Army at age 21. He served as a UH-1 “Huey” crew chief in the 82nd Airborne Division, Aviation Battalion. He honorably discharged in 1972 with the rank of Specialist Five.

Following his service in the U.S. Army, Richard graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Wyoming. In college, he met Barbara Brower, whom he wed in 1975.

Out of college, Richard went to work for General Electric as a field engineer for nearly two decades, working in Pennsylvania, Wyoming, and Kentucky. He subsequently moved to Texas to work for Northwestern Resources.

He moved to Laramie in 1998 to be closer to his parents. While in Laramie, he worked as an engineer for Mountain Cement. He then worked for Western Engineering as a consultant to Anadarko Petroleum in the methane gas fields in northern Wyoming until his retirement.

Richard enjoyed a lifelong passion for photography. He spent countless hours researching equipment and techniques, and he loved to photograph Wyoming’s natural beauty and wildlife. He also enjoyed camping, fly-fishing, and building dollhouses and scale military models.

He enjoyed traveling around the country and had the goal of seeing all the national parks in the United States. These trips instilled a love of camping and the outdoors in his girls. He also thoroughly enjoyed his international cruises down the Rhine River, as well as one through the Mediterranean.

Most of all, Richard deeply loved his family. He was married nearly 49 years to his bride, Barbara. He was a proud father to his two daughters, Christina and Michelle, and their husbands. He was an affectionate grandfather to his seven grandchildren. Richard was always ready to help, generous and doting, and spent much of his time working on dollhouses, dioramas, and models with his grandkids for them to enjoy.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Fern. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, his daughters, Christina (Phil) Hutchison and Michelle (Brandon) Davis, seven grandchildren, and many cousins.

A service will be held with military honors on August 2, 2024, at the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Evansville (Casper), Wyoming, with a reception to follow at the Ramkota Hotel and Conference Center in Casper.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
