Janice Elaine (Dominy) DeBolt entered her eternal life on August 11th, 2023, at the caring, compassionate, Hospice House in Laramie, WY with her three daughters surrounding her. She is now free to breathe and free from toting around the oxygen tanks that were her constant companion for nearly three decades.
She was born on August 29th, 1935 in Gillette, WY, the firstborn of Floyd and Alice Dominy. When Janice was three years old, her family moved to the Washington DC area for her father’s job with the State Dept. of Agriculture. She returned to Wyoming, the state she loved, to attend the University of Wyoming, earning her degree in Home Economics. She met Jack DeBolt and they married on April 2nd, 1956. They raised their three girls in Torrington, WY. Jan’s husband Jack passed away on 1973 , making her a widow for 50 years.
Their daughters are Jancy Walter of Lingle, WY; Jenny Schilt (Mike) of Laramie; Jeanne Warme (Winston) of Bellevue, WA. She has 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren who all call her Gammer. In addition to her daughters, she is survived by her brother Charles Dominy (Mary Dell) and sister Ruth Young (Dick) all of Virginia. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, son-in-law Tim Walter and Great Granddaughter Emma Walter.
Truly an educator, Jan touched many lives through her roles in Campfire Girls; 4-H; swimming lessons; sewing and quilting classes; Highschool Home Economics Teacher; and Cooperative Extension in Thermopolis, Torrington, and Wheatland.
Some of her artistic talents, eye for color and knowledge of techniques used in quilting were passed on to her daughters. They all enjoyed attending their annual “Three Peas and the Pod” quilting retreats. Her daughters promised her they would keep the tradition going, as well as sharing the love of quilts with others. Jan believed the adage; “if life gives you scraps; make quilts!” and that is how she lived her life.
There will be a service to celebrate her life on her birthday, August 29th, 2023, at the Lingle Community Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p.m.
Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Laramie Hospice House, PEO Chapter AI or the Wyoming State Quilt Guild.
Jan was a joy to get to know at Homestead PT, strong and determined, and always so nice. We will miss her.
I’m so sad to hear of Janice passing. She was a big part of my life in the summers growing up. I remember going to the Debolt family cabin in glendo a lot. All of the Debolt kids were swimming and riding the set ski. She knew I wanted to learn but I didn’t know how to swim so she said ok Tammy come here and threw me in the lake and said swim, and that’s how I learned to swim. I have fond memories of this sweet lady. She will be missed. Condolences to all of her family
Jancy, Jenny, and Jeanie: I have such fond memories of your mom as a Campfire leader. She changed my life by helping me to understand and respect the earth and all it has to offer. I loved camping and because of your mom, when I got a job teaching in Gering, Nebraska, I, too, became a Campfire leader--and loved every minute of it. See you around the campfiire, Mrs. DeBolt.
I feel so fortunate to have met Jan and know of the wonderful legacy she leaves behind. She was the definition of true grit while holding a very caring and compassionate heart. So happy for her to now have eternal peace and health. Until we meet again, friend!
A legacy of love and well deserved. To be able to pass knowledge to her daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren is truly a live goal for all. This lady will be missed by her family and her friends. May God bless her pretty soul.
Jancy, Jenny, and Jeanie -- such fun memories of your mom, when we were all little kids up on the hill. Many years later, Jan was such a great instructor when I was getting my lifeguard certification. She was so fun, and had a smile that would light up a room. I loved reading about your Three Peas and a Pod retreat. Jan touched so many lives, and will be missed by so many.

What a great gal! That laugh and cheery nature made me feel like an adult even though I was a child. I would have loved to quilt with her. So long Friend. 🙂
When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure. May you treasure all your memories of Jan.
Jan was a treasured member and friend in the Laramie Woman's Club; her talents as a quilter were highly regarded, as were her delicious date cookies. May your many memories provide your family comfort; Jan is free of her body's Earthly limitations. She's at rest, and now shines in the stars above.

I’m heart broken that your Mother has left us, but happy that she no longer has to struggle to breathe. Jan was such an asset to our P.E.O. Sisterhood, as she was an ever positive influence and willing participant. We “Jan’s” had a special bond, and losing her is a great loss — for me, our AI sisters, and to this community. My sincerest condolences to all of Jan’s family. May heaven bring you gentle comfort as you process this loss. I only knew Jan for a short time, but it was apparent that she was kind and intelligent. She gave her thoughtful insight as we worked on P.E.O. scholarships.
I had the privilege of working with Jan for several years with the Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service. I love that her daughters were with her as she departed us for a better place.
