John C. Barratt

John C. Barratt was born March 29, 1932, in Laramie, WY to Col. Thomas H. Barratt and Jean Moore Barratt.

He lived his life as a person who could see the good in all things.  He believed that everything had an energy, and that energy was to be respected and cherished.  John was a lifelong resident of Laramie but throughout his life he had amazing adventures all over the world; from building prostheses for children in need, for the Clifton R. Mabon Company, climbing Mount Fuji, saving his boy scout troop stuck in a Tsunami, with his dad and brother, capturing a famous cat-burglar known for robbing military homes in Japan, and walking in the gardens of Italy.  He enjoyed talking about these wonderful memories with anyone who took the time to listen.  After high school graduation he attended the University of Wyoming from 1955-1960. He pledged to Sigma Alpha Epsilon 1956, and Theta Alpha Phi 1958. He attended Kendal School of Design, 1960-1961, then he attended Gallaudet University 1963-1964, and then returned and graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1965 with a bachelor’s in arts.  With a passion for structural engineering, he began his career at Banner and Associates.  John was part of so many projects including buildings for the University of Wyoming, the reconstruction of the Wyoming Territorial Park, surveying for the construction of the observatory on Jelm Mountain, and countless others.  John retired at the age of 60 years old to care for his mother and comfort her in her final years.  He was an amazing, talented, funny man, his positive outlook will be truly missed.   He loved the sea, his emojis, and VW bug, but above all his three daughters and grandchildren.

He was a great father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle, and he will be greatly missed by all.

To all those who knew or had interactions with John C. Barratt, know that he genuinely valued each one of you and was happy to call you a friend.  John passed on July 2, 2022.

He is survived by his brother, Richard Barratt (Elizabeth) and niece, Bethany Barratt Dee; his children, Stephanie Barratt, Erin (Noel) Welch, and Amanda Barratt (Robert Buck); his grandchildren, Brandon (Linda) Barratt, Alissa Barratt, Brett Way, Brooke Way, Beau Way, Tia (Chris) Bowen, Britney Welch (Josh Van Baalen), Dominique Barratt Heckart, and Devyn Barratt Heckart; his great grandchildren, Veda, Rebel, Serenity, Nathan, Isaiah, Chloe, Ellie, Atreus, Capreelynn and Itzel Barratt; and friend Skip Way.
