Sherman “Shorty” Hardesty, 85, passed away on June 28, 2021.
Shorty was born on May 1, 1936 in Douglas, Wyoming to Ole and May Hardesty. He enlisted in the Marine Corp on January 6, 1954. He served our country with one tour of duty during the Korean War. Upon leaving the Marine Corp he married his wife of 50 years, Connie Murphy on January 19 1957. After moving several times, they moved one final time and made Laramie their home with their son, Jeff Hardesty.
Throughout his life, Shorty worked as a bodyman in the automotive industry. He opened Shorty’s Body Shop in the early 1970’s, which was one of his proudest moments. He owned and operated the body shop with his son, Jeff, until 2003. He continued to tinker with projects at the shop until he passed away.
Shorty was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with family, bowling, hunting, fishing, and camping. He also enjoyed any time he could share a cup of coffee with anyone and share his thoughts about cars, his time in the military, and any project he was working on at the time.
Shorty is preceded in death by his parents Ole and May Hardesty, wife Connie, son Jeff, nephew Danny Murphy and brother Truman. He is survived by his sister Evelyn McIntyre, daughter in law Ellen Hardesty, grandsons Dave (Canyon) and Aaron (Robyn), great grandchildren Cayden, Madison, Quinn, and Nora. As well as many friends. Viewing will be held from 9:00 – 10:30 am on July 7th at Montgomery Stryker Funeral Home. Followed by a Graveside service at 11:00 am at Harmony Cemetery with military honors. A reception will follow at 12:00 pm at the VFW.
The loss will be felt by many. Rip.
