Carol Bernice Conley

Carol Bernice Conley, age 80, of Walden, Colorado, passed away peacefully in her home, February 7, 2021, surrounded by her family. She was born to Charles Calvin and Hattie Bell (Kerns) Metzger on October 28, 1940, in Chillicothe, Ohio. She attended Centralia High School, and was class Salutatorian. She was a drum majorette, played the piano for the choir and was a member of the Future Homemakers of America. In 1957, she married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Roger Conley. They were married for 63 years. To this union four children were born. They moved the family to North Park in 1970 living at Ozark Mahoney Mine until they moved into the town of Walden in 1972. She resided there until her passing.

Carol had a strong work ethic. She took pride in her work and was always a dedicated employee. In the late 1960’s she worked for DuPont in Circleville, Ohio. She was a valued employee for Corkles, North Park Supers for 43 years until her retirement in 2017. She enjoyed her co-workers and the many customers that she treasured as friends. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge in Walden where she served as Noble Grand, Past Noble Grand, and secretary/treasurer throughout the years.

Carol was a devoted wife and mother. She loved her husband and children fiercely. She showered us with love and affection. She taught us about life, and led us by her example. Each relationship with her was treasured and unique.  She loved to bake and was an excellent cook and homemaker. We always wanted a place at the table when she was baking or cooking so we could watch, learn, taste and hear her laughter. She had a passion for all types of music and would captivate us with her beautiful singing voice.

She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and had a very special relationship with each one. They all have special memories and stories to tell about their Granny/Kiki.  She swapped perfume with the girls, shared candy and cookies with the boys, and was never too busy to take a ride on the four wheeler with Justin.  She had a sweet tooth, and love of coffee that several of her children and grandchildren inherited from her. We all enjoyed the conversations and the time we spent with her on the porch. She enjoyed watching the deer, moose and other various animals that made their way through the field by the house. In her later years, the porch was one of her favorite places to spend time with her husband, family and friends. She was a strong, humble, spirit filled woman who adored Jesus and carried herself with grace and poise.  We will miss her smile, hugs, “I love you’s” and her sense of humor.

Carol is survived by her husband, Roger, of the home and her four children, Debbie (Anthony) Garcia, Walden CO,  Rhonda (Jay) Moore, Jackson MN, Scott (Lauri) Conley, Laramie Wyo, Diana (Glen) Hurt, Cowdrey CO. 9 Grandchildren: Nicol Bailey, Greely CO, Justin Hurt, Walden CO, Cami (Mike)Phillips, Burnsville MN, Haley (Bryan)Vancura, Delano MN, Katy Moore, Jackson MN, Kelsey Moore, Tampa FL, Cooper Moore, Redding CA, Paden Moore, Mountain Home ID, Keegan Moore, Cedar Falls IA. 6 Great grandchildren: Geordan Bailey, Aayliah Bailey, Garrus Phillips, Brooks Vancura, June Vancura, Rowan Moore.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Don Metzger, and grandson Jerry Bailey.

A celebration of life is being planned for summer. The family requests memorial donations be made to the North Park Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 163, Walden, Colorado, 80480.
