Donald Roy Johnson, 90, of Laramie died Saturday, August 22, 2020 at Ivinson Memorial Hospital.
Donald was born December 6, 1929, to Fredrick and Velma (Newlon) Johnson in Burns, WY. He married Lonna Smith on January 26, 1951 and they had four children.
Donald served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Afterwards, he and Lonna moved to Laramie in 1955 where he began to ranch and later went on to work and retire from the Laramie Fire Department. During his downtime, he loved to fish and hunt and was a board member for the Eppson Center for Seniors.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lonna; and his son John.
He is survived by his children, Sue Watson, Lorra Cotton, and Lon Johnson; eleven grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.
Donald will be buried along-side with his wife in a family plot in Albin, WY.
I am so sorry I am sending this so late. I was saddened to see Don passed. So glad I got to know him (and Lonna). He was so pleasant to talk to. He would come into my work place and we would talk about ranching, haying, you name it. Lonna was in my Secret Pal group and was such a joy. I miss them both. With my Sympathy, Nancy Kern
I was sorry to read that Mr. Johnson had passed. He moved into Springwind not long after my mother, Rosemarie Wallace, moved in. I remember showing him the pool table and he was looking forward to playing. I sat next to him late February at Happy Hour...he was enjoying it. Sadly, my mother passed in June and we have lost touch with our Springwind friends. He led a very fulfilling life.

Grew up knowing Lonna and Don. Loved to visit with them and in their later years taking care of them. Lonna always made the best cinnamon rolls and Don the big smile and a good conversation. Truly Don was a great man and will be missed.

Don was such a great person that I so enjoyed talking to at the Eppson Center. His stories about ranching and his military years were very interesting. I've included all I've collected about his military and ranch years in the Ranch History Project Files. They eventually will be stored at the American Heritage Center at the University of Wyoming.
Thank you. He so enjoyed taking us for lunch at the "wrinkle farm" as he called it. Everyone was so nice.
I am sad to read that Don passed but I saw him everyday at Springwind and I knew he was not doing well. My Mom passed the next day at Springwind. Don was the person that would hay our fields on Pierce Street. Don and I became friends and I always enjoyed our chats when he would come to hay. He had so much energy and a wonderful sense of humor. That was about 25 years ago. I want to extend my empathy and sympathy to Don's entire family. He was a wonderful friend. I am so sorry to read that Don passed. I always enjoyed our visits when he either came in to the bank, , the Courthouse or when I would run into him around town. I had always planned on going to visit him when Spring Wind reopened. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
