It is with profound sadness that we share that Patricia “Pat” DeVoe succumbed to metastatic breast cancer on May 15th, 2020 at the age of 72. She fought the disease valiantly for over 35 years before going home to be with the Lord.
Pat was born October 23rd, 1947 in Elizabeth City, NC. She married William DeVoe of Boston, MA, on October 15th, 1967. Their son, William, was born in 1969 in Boston. She lived an itinerant life, eventually living in many different states including New York, Virginia, Massachusetts, Colorado, Wyoming, and even Saudi Arabia.
Pat’s early professional life was diverse, working as a clerk at the US Navy Yard in Norfolk, VA, as an IRS agent, and even as a Pinkerton’s detective. She chose to return to college as a non-traditional student in the late 1970s, graduating with honors from Western Wyoming Community College, where she was also Student Government president. Pat came to the University of Wyoming in Laramie, graduating – again with honors – with a BA in International Studies. While at UW, she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Mortar Board, and was an officer in ASUW.
She spent the second part of her professional career as an office manager, working at such innovative software companies as Cullinet, Lotus, and GE in Massachusetts. Pat worked in the Bay State for several decades before returning to Laramie in 2017. She chose to retire in Laramie because she loved the atmosphere and the people. Ever-ready with a hug, she was a delight to the many people who knew and came to love her.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Gloria Kay of North Babylon, NY. She is survived by her son, Bill, two grandchildren, Cathy and Andrew, and daughter-in-law Susie, all of Denver, CO. Her Laramie family consisted of everyone who knew her but most especially the congregation at Whitewater Christian Church and the medical professionals and their staffs who supported her during her battles with cancer.
Services will be held Friday, May 29th, at 2pm at Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home in Laramie.

Your respect and support for my passion for music and teaching helped me through some tough times; and I still have many of the recordings and videos you sent me of your granddaughter Cathy of whom you were so proud. Beautiful singer! I will miss, so much, our regular Friday evening (long) phone calls and so many of your encouraging, funny and inspirational emails. My deepest condolences to Bill and his family and to all who were touched by your genuine spirit and your love. The battle is over. Pat gave spice, humor, and richness to my life. Her faith and trust in God helped me, I am grateful that we were brought together. I wish peace of heart to her family, friends and all others who knew her.
