Robert A, Monteith did not want an obituary; this is a glimpse at this brilliant man’s life lasting Feb. 7,
1952- July 20, 2017, Bob passed away from complications due to Parkinson’s disease, with his friend,
Mary Fick Monteith at his side.
Born in Waterloo, lA, the child of Arnold Purdy Monteith and Mabel Virginia Gould Monteith, Bob
graduated from high school in Sidney, NE. He earned a degree in Journalism from the University of
Northern Colorado, Greeley, graduating magna cum laude in 1975. He pursued work in journalism in
CO, NM and finally, laramie, ‘NY. He obtained his Juris Doctorate from the University of Wyoming
(UW) in 1982, entering private legal practice emphasizing commercial, bankruptcy and trial law. He
obtained an MBA from UW in 1992.
This combination of skills enabled him to practice law I in addition to writing text materials, designing
and presenting education seminars at Western Wyoming Community College, Central Wyoming
Community College, University of Wyoming, and other institutes. He provided instruction in the
classroom, by compressed video and through web-based classes. He was a member of the Wyoming
Bar Associati.on, retiring in 2012 due to declining health. He was a member of the Mensa organization
a nd Elks for decades.
He: loved to travel, traveling ‘to Alaska to fish. Wisconsin, Florida and Texas were also favorite fishing spots. He hunted
with frfends in the mountains of WYand NM. An interest in the genealogical roots of the name Monteith took him to
Scotland. Those roots revealed origins of Menteith of Clan Graham,inspiring him to attend the Scottish Highlands
Festival in Estes Park, CO. It was here that he purchased his quilt and supporting Scottish attire, which he wore to formal
and community events.
An avid outdoorsman, Bob loved downhill skiing, hunting and fishing. When not involved in these activities; he enjoyed a
good 8Bo. Wyoming Public Radio, watching football or baseball, playing card and board games. Being a man of many
skills, he built, then lived in each of three log cabins in Centennial, WY … this was his home and this was his family for
nearly 30 years. A Celebration of Ufe is going to take place on Wed. Aug. 30,4·7 p.m. in the grove behind The Friendly
Store in Centennial.
Parkinson’s disease cut Bob’s quality of life short, even after receiving the best of care from the University of Colorado~
Anschutz neurologists. With the assistance of Montgomery-Striker Funeral Home, his brain has been donated to UC and
his body cremated.

I didn't know Bob, but I felt I knew him because my dear friend, Mary. My thoughts and prayers go out to you, Mary. May the Good Lord bless and keep him.
