Phebe M. Smith, age 91, died September 25, 2016 in Laramie, WY.
Born and raised in East Hampton, NY out on the rural east end of Long Island, Phebe attended laboratory technician school after high school. She married her hometown sweetheart Walter Smith on May 4, 1946, after he returned from World War II and completed college.
Phebe and Walt lived in several states before settling in Hackensack, NJ for 25 years. A loving and dedicated wife and mother, Phebe enjoyed the privilege of staying at home to raise their seven children. They eventually returned to small-town living in 1980, moving to Ten Sleep, WY. Since 2009, she lived in Laramie, WY.
Phebe is preceded in death by her loving husband Walt, and is survived by her seven children (and spouses), Kent Smith (Carol) of Saratoga, WY, Jeff Smith (Betty) of Laramie, WY, Bruce Smith (Karen) of Seattle, WA, Molly Hollingsworth (Lee) of Placerville, CA, Dave Smith (Carolyn) of Greenville, NY, Sally Mackey (Charley) of Rock Springs, WY, and Walt Smith (Andi) of Bozeman, MT, 27 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Jeff and family, I am truly sorry for your loss. I really wish I had known your mom lived in ten Sleep because my dad, Scotty Pickett was born and raised there and had I known this, the short time mom and dad lived at Spring Wind, they could of had conversations with your mom about the Big Horn Basin area. You are in my thoughts.
We are so sorry to hear about Phebe. We had the grocery store in Ten Sleep, and how we used to love to see both Phebe and Walt when they would come in! We would have conversations about issues of the day, Walt would get picked on for something or other, and laughs were too many to count. And the love between them was just so obvious. They were two of our favorite people during our time in the community. Our sympathy to you all; we feel how much this must be impacting the family...
