Dr. Galyn Stahl accomplished his greatest feat, leaving his tired, painful body behind and going to be with Jesus. He died July 14th, 2016 peacefully surrounded by his wife and daughters at the Pathways Hospice at Mckee Medical Center in Loveland CO from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease. He was 76.
Dr. Stahl was born in Springfield IL, 1940 to Jack and Glenda (Millage) Stahl.
Dr. Stahl earned his high school degree from Holyoke CO high school in 1958. He then went on to earn his MS at the University of Wisconsin, and MD from the University of Colorado Medical Center. He completed his medical residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Colorado Medical Center and State University of New York, Syracuse.
He began his career as Assistant Director of Laboratories and Staff Pathologist at Denver General Hospital in 1971. In 1973 he transferred to Laramie, where he became President/Owner of Wyoming Pathology and Director of Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Ivinson Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Stahl also served in a variety of organizational capacities, including: clinical Pathology Consultant for Schryver Medical Laboratories in Denver CO; Medical Director of Anatomic & Clinical Pathology at Memorial Hospital of Carbon County in Rawlins, WY; Albany County Coroner and Public Health Officer; Albany County Registrar for the Wyoming State Medical Society; a Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists; and a Fellow of the Collage of American Pathologists. Dr. Stahl was also a member of the Wyoming and Colorado Societies of Clinical Pathology, served on the Wyoming State Medical Society Board of Trustees, and was a Consultant for the Wyoming State Crime Lab.
Dr. Stahl’s other professional interests included real estate development and construction.
Dr. Stahl is preceded in death by his first wife Sharon K. Stahl, second wife Karen A. Stahl, his mother and father, Glenda Millage Stahl and Jack Stahl, and his sister, Jacqueline Maynes.
Dr. Stahl will be remembered as a wonderful father, husband, and friend. Family was very important to him. He had a heart of gold and loved to help others in any way he could. His bright smile and kind spirit will be missed by family and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman and spending time in nature with animals was his favorite pastime. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, tying fishing flies, and collecting rare and vintage firearms.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Stahl; four children, Shannon Stahl of Austin TX, Erin Stahl of Cottonwood Heights UT, stepson Aaron Bateman (April) and stepdaughter Christa Biggs (Cory) of Laramie; eight grandsons; his brother Richard Stahl (Lauretta) of Littleton CO; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10:00am, Tuesday July 19th at St. Paul’s Newman Center, 1800 Grand Ave. Laramie WY 82070. Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home.
My condolences to all. We can take comfort in knowing he had a good life. He put his talents to work and accomplished so much while providing a service to others. So sad it had to end to soon.
