Rudolph “Rudy” Sanchez

SanchezRRudolph V. “Rudy” Sanchez passed away Friday, November 6, 2015 at Ivinson Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Rudy was born July 3, 1936 in Rawlins, Wyoming to Robert and Lela (Ortega) Sanchez. The family moved to Laramie where Rudy was raised and educated. After high school Rudy enlisted in the United States Navy and served four years. During that time he visited many ports and places such as: Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Yugoslavia, and Portugal. He enjoyed sharing his adventures while aboard the Cruiser USS Des Moines with his family and friends. He was very proud to have served his country.

After a four year tour in the Navy, Rudy returned to Laramie when he then decided to become a barber. He attended Barber College in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Rudy opened his barber shop in Laramie in 1961. Many people remember him as the first person who cut their hair. He had many customers, some who lived in outlying areas of Laramie, and his barber shop at times became a local meeting place. After 50 years, Rudy retired in July of 2011.

In December of 1962 Rudy married Elvita Ruby Barela in Laramie. Rudy and Ruby shared 53 years together, and during that time they raised four children. The shared many adventures enjoying camping and fishing trips. Their love of nature and the beautiful state of Wyoming not only encompassed the lives of their children but their grandchildren as well.

Rudy leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Ruby; his four children, Paula, David, Jerri Lynne, and Christopher; eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren; his three brothers, James, Frank, and Roy and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Rudy’s life will be held Wednesday, November 11 at 2:00 p.m., at Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home with the Reverend Fr. Dave Erikson officiating.Military rites will be conducted by the Laramie Veterans Honor Guard and the Wyoming National Guard. A reception will follow at the Laramie VFW Post 2221.
